A collection of "rare and unreleased" material, this merely reinforces everything we know about Crowded House. They like The Beatles, write great lyrics and swing wildly between plodding Kiwi rock and deft moments of brilliance such as Weather With You, which is well worth the tag "instant classic". Over the piece, they plod more than they deft , but songs like the haunting Lester - on which Neil Finn sounds like a bluesy Vic Chestnut - make Afterglow likeable enough.
