Neil Finn - Hole In The Ice (Parlophone)

Hole In The Ice
Hole In The Ice
It's refreshing to hear the work of a renowned songsmith that hasn't lost the plot. There's no need to apologise for this Kiwi genius as he keeps churning them out. Forget the Scandinavian approach to analysing pop and melody, you just can't beat raw talent.

Neil Finn's participation in Crowded House will live on in the record collections of millions across the globe but his most recent solo album 'One Nil' is certainly up there with some of his best work to date and the album version has been further bolstered for release making it even more alluring.

Written with Lisa Coleman (of Wendy & Lisa fame), 'Hole In The Ice' boasts an unusual song structure and sublime harmonies in the chorus. If that wasn't enough the single also comes with 'Loose Tongue' and 'Not the Girl You Think You Are' recorded live in London with Finn's allstar band featuring Johnny Marr, Radiohead's Ed O'Brien and Phil Selway, Lisa Germano and Sebastian Steinberg. Not many artists could command that sort of backing band.
